About the location
The striking Carré Chassé complex, designed by Rem Koolhaas, is part of the transformation of the former Chassé military site into a modern neighborhood.
After the Ministry of Defense vacated the site, Rem Koolhaas (OMA) designed, in 1994–1996 the urban master plan for Chassépark. In 2002, the building designed by Koolhaas Carré was completed. It originally served as a residential and office building that housed, among other things, a regional police team.

Following the departure of the office tenants, the building was recently transformed into a creative hub and cultural ‘Open Podium’. The building now provides space for exhibitions , cultural initiatives, and the creative incubator, pending the further redevelopment of the Chassékwartier.

During Breda Open Monument Days, Breda Promotions takes you on a journey through Breda’s rich history in the wing housing the story rooms, by reservation only.

A guide will take you on a journey through the rich stories and crafts within these spaces.

Starting point for the Maria Mater Dei Care Convent Tour
The Maria Mater Dei Care Convent is a modern convent and care center run by the Franciscan Sisters of “Alles voor Allen.”
This year, the sisters are celebrating their 200th anniversary and are offering you a unique opportunity to get a glimpse into the daily life and history of the convent community.
During the tour, you’ll learn interesting facts about these humble sisters, such as the origins of the Amphia Hospital, which traces its roots directly to the Ignatius Hospital and, before that, the Gasthuis on the Haagdijk. The sisters’ life’s work is the very embodiment of resilience.
On this tour, you’ll follow a special route that takes you along the hospital path, the sisters’ museum, and the convent garden, among other stops.

  • Starts at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
  • Space for up to 15 people.
  • By reservation only.
