Our local partners

Open Monument Days Breda (OMD Breda) exists thanks to the efforts of many enthusiastic partners within the municipality of Breda. Without their support and involvement, the Open Monument Days would not be possible.

OMD Breda is a bottom-up organized event with the owners and managers who open their building free of charge to receive the public as its foundation. In addition, we have sustainable partnerships with program partners.

We would like to thank everyone who makes this event a success every year: managers and owners of the opened buildings and locations, collaboration partners, initiators and organizers, friends of Open Monument Day and all volunteers!

Breda Committee

Every year, the project team of Open Monument Days Breda is ready with great enthusiasm to organize a wonderful monument weekend together with all partners.

Europe and the European Heritage Days

By organising the Open Monument Days in Breda, we want to create a meeting between the past, present and future. We want to enable residents and visitors (from all population groups and all generations) to empathise with Breda's past. In this way, we create a (new) awareness of their own identity; both culturally, socially, politically and economically. In this way, OMD Breda wants to create connections between people and between people in relation to their environment.

Many more countries in Europe organise an Open Monument Day or Days, almost all in the month of September and under the common name European Heritage Days. The Open Monument Day in the Netherlands is part of the European Heritage Days (EHD). The EHD is an initiative of the Council of Europe and is supported by the European Union. Currently, there are 50 countries or regions that participate in these European Heritage Days. All with the same goal. By opening up buildings that are normally closed to the public, the public becomes aware of the beauty of the cultural heritage. Every country and region has its own history and culture and therefore its own building style.
