You’ll visit the three story rooms—Breda Room, Jazz Room, and Hof der Zotheid—as well as the special City Monuments.
Story Room — Created by and for the people of Breda
The city of Breda tells the stories of its special, unique attractions and festivals through dollhouses and miniatures. Rare and unique, created with love, craftsmanship, and knowledge, the city’s stories come to life. Even in the “dollhouse world,” the scenes don’t stand alone. Recycled materials are given new purpose; what was once “worthless” is now unique. Talk about resilience…
You don’t know what you know and see. It’s a celebration of recognition and a challenge to get started yourself on creating a fun “book nook.”
Story Room — Breda Jazz Festival
The Jazz Room or Round Table Room. Breda Jazz Festival has been the oldest and largest 4-day jazz festival in Europe and attracts 250,000 visitors annually. Breda has a rich musical history. From making music together with soldiers, ’t Zesde and the Taptoe, to jazz, famous DJs, and the Breda Men’s Choir. Music connects, amazes, uplifts, and provides resilience in difficult times.
Story Room – Breda and Carnival
The Court of Folly, Breda, and Carnival. What do Prinsenstraat, the Kielegat, the horses of the De Biemeewes (1936) and Kiske and Mieske, the photos of all the Carnival Princes, the emblems, awards, and outfits, rituals, and traditions? City Monuments
ART Eva Maria with live music by Erik-Jan van Schravendijk on the guitar-lute, featuring melodies and city sounds. Expressive paintings capturing the energy, movement, and resilience of the city.
City Monuments is a series of paintings of abstract cityscapes, depicting the city as a living monument. Not a static backdrop of stone and steel, but a dynamic environment that is constantly changing. Day and night, light and dark, stillness and activity alternate, constantly giving the city a new face. The city displays remarkable resilience. It grows, changes, recovers, and seeks a balance between the past and the future. “City Monuments” invites the viewer to see the city as an evolving organism.
At the heart of the series is a monumental painting measuring 1.5 x 2 meters that brings together the energy, diversity, and transformation of the city in a single powerful image.
