The Wendelinuskapel, which dates from 1440, was commissioned by Johanna van Polanen, as part of a men’s monastery that was to be founded.

.

In 1535, Hendrik III of Nassau requested that the Beguines move to the current location and the Beguines were given the Wendelinuskapel, which they have since named after Catherine.
In 1590, after the success of the ruse with the Turfschip, Charles de Héraugière took the church from the Beguines and turned it into a French-speaking Protestant church: the Waalse Kerk Breda.

Now the church is used for many cultural and social purposes.
