About the Location
Even true Breda locals can’t seem to find the Lutheran Church (1784). Between a café and a store on Veemarktstraat, you’ll find a gate leading to a hidden courtyard garden. It is still the only clandestine church in Breda that functions as a place of worship. Beneath the church lies one of Breda’s oldest preserved kitchens, featuring original nail-patterned tiles. Today, the church serves as a place for reflection, conversation, and culture.

Painting Exhibition “No Way Back”
A sense of security seems self-evident—until it disappears. In this series, painter Lia van de Laar depicts what happens when that sense of security is lost. The paintings are based on stories of women from the Bible, but stripped of any religious context. What they experience isn’t from the past. It’s from the present. Loss of security. Emptiness. A longing for security.
In each painting, you see a moment when something shifts. A choice. A boundary. A loss.
There is no turning back. Only a question.
