Farm de Pekhoeve is a national monument in the middle of Ulvenhout; a farmhouse with barn, the former Flemish barn (now Social Cultural Center De Pekhoeve), a baking shed and the Karkooi (or Karschob). Farm De Pekhoeve is first mentioned in 1590 and has had several functions since then.
.
The Karkooi was originally part of the agricultural farm and was used to store agricultural equipment such as plows and carts. The left part housed young cattle and later horses; the right part housed the carriage the farmer used to go to church on Sundays. That part was therefore named ’t Gerij.
.
Today, the Karkooi houses a book exchange project, where many passersby meet daily – whether they are on their way on a bicycle, running errands or just come to exchange a book. Thus “being on the road” is interrupted in this monument in a particularly pleasant way.
Exchange Books
In this Karkooi you will find an exchange project of books. This is where many
passersby meet; whether this is a bike ride or shopping or swapping books: all are welcome.
