What exactly is the secret behind that mysterious building at Ginnekenweg 141?
With its striking compass and square, the facade immediately catches the eye, but what goes on inside remains a mystery to most. Since 1931, this has been the home of Freemasonry—a fraternity centered on personal development, inspiration, and growth.
The building, which was designed specifically for Freemasonry, has had an eventful history. For example, during World War II, it was forced to serve as a dance school, after which it returned to the hands of its original occupants. Following several renovations, the building now houses various initiatory societies.
This year marks the 235th anniversary of the Het Vrij Geweeten Masonic Lodge, and Freemasonry today is thriving as never before.
Especially for Open Monument Day, the Breda Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges are opening their doors. A unique opportunity for a rare glimpse behind the scenes of these fascinating worlds, which normally remain closed to the public!

An audiovisual presentation on the history and present of Freemasonry and its lodge building in Breda. During the open house at our building, you can personally meet the various lodges that use the building, namely: Masonic lodges for men ““Het Vrij Geweeten” and “Geef Uzelf,” the mixed Masonic lodge “Arcade Breda,” and the Odd Fellows Brabo Mixed Lodge Breda.
During your visit, members of the societies will be happy to tell you more about their rich history, the present, and their vision for the future. You’ll learn more about the building and the functions of the various rooms over the years. Be sure not to miss the exhibition featuring special artifacts from the lodges’ past.
