With 350 theater performances, 3,400 film screenings and over 350,000 visitors per season, the Chasse Theater is the largest theater in the South. No theater offers so much diversity, from big Broadway musicals to small flat-floor experiments, from symphonic orchestral music to non-native folk music and from full-length classical ballet to post-modern dance and film.
The Chassé Theater was designed by Prof. Herman Hertzberger. He is considered the leading architect in the Netherlands after World War II. His designs stand out for their lively, almost playful appearance. His credo ‘man is the measure of things’ is evident from this. Hertzberger received much appreciation for the degree to which he manages to create space. His buildings always suggest enormous freedom of movement. Hertzberger’s choice of materials is usually very sober. He often suffices with simple materials such as concrete, wood and iron.

In June 1995, the new theater was a reality and audiences were able to enjoy a first musical production.
Chassé theater tour with theatrical surprise
If there is anywhere to tell and experience stories it is in the Chassé Theater. Also this year during Open Monumentendag the theater will open its doors for a special tour. Let us take you inside the building, learn all about the special architecture, ask our guide questions and be amazed by the largest theater in the Southern Netherlands. Discover the iconic building (1995) designed by Herman Hertzberger and nominated to become a municipal monument.
The tour is interactive, includes a special theatrical surprise and is suitable for all ages and is given in Dutch (60 min.).
