Where the Seelig Barracks used to be, students of the Rooi Pannen can now be found. The beautiful architecture, the old buildings that whisper stories of days gone by and the modern facilities combine to form the backdrop of daily living and learning. The campus is a bridge between past, present and future, a place where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.
In 1642 an arsenal, or storehouse for weapons, an indispensable part of a garrison city, arose on the Gasthuisvelden. Forty years later the entire area was designated an exercise ground so that the area south of the Haagdijk and Mark acquired a military character. In 1764, a second arsenal was built after which people began to speak of Groot and Klein Arsenaal. In 1836, the Klein Arsenaal was drastically rebuilt. After the dismantling of the fortress, the Seelig Barracks was built on the Gasthuisvelden to house the field artillery. The monumental arsenal buildings have been part of the barracks ever since and currently serve as a training building.
Guided tour
Tours (30 min.) led by students are offered on a continuous basis (max. 10 people). During your visit to the campus and some of the buildings, you will discover the rich history as well as the current occupation of this site.
Start and finish Dafjestocht
Also this year you have the chance to explore Breda in an authentic DAF. As starting and finishing point we are guests at De Rooi Pannen. This tour can only be done on reservation.
